Urgent: Help in Mechanics 1 needed!!

Hi.. I was wondering if someone could help me explain about chapter 4 and 5 (Resolving Forces and Friction). As you can see I have been trying to understand the main concept but I couldn't understand it at all @@...I even failed my 1st quiz..:( Please give me suggestions.. Thanks guys..:)

forces can only be resolved into two compenents
perpendicular to each other.
i) If the force makes certain angle with X-axis
One component would be along X-Axis and other along Y-Axis( perpendicular to the component lying along x-axis).
ii) if the force is lying along the slope of the plane.
One component would be along the plane and other perpendicular to the plane.

now resloving all these , then see whether the body is in equilibrium
a) if yes, then
take sum of all compnents of horizontal forces ( along the plane)=0
and sum of all component of vertical forces(perpendicular to plane)=0
and hence unknown force can be calcaulted.
b) if it is not
then take resultant (net) of the forces along the direction it is moving and apply Newton's 2nd law.
