what are the functions of slip rings?

what are the function of split rings? i know that they reverse the current, but how? i need more details.

do you demagnetize a magnet by putting it in a solenoid in dc or ac current??

slip rings r used in ac generators.. they allow d current to pass out of d coil along wid d carbon brushes..
split ring commutators r used in dc motors.. they reverse d current aftr d coil passes d vertical position..

I just had mine resized down 1/2 size but my jeweller also recommended that for some people you get these "balls" put into the Rotary joint which allows it to expand to get over the knuckle but then be smaller and tighter around the finger. Not sure if that is what you mean?
