The exams are in October and you have 20 case studies for AS.
So I suggest you start studying right away. Keep looking for a teacher at the side, of course.

by the way, can you spot the advantages of studying these mind-boggling subjects like psychology and socio ? provided one chooses them how much time and what resources would be required ?

They are not difficult or mind-boggling. But there is a lot to memorise for these subjects. I guess Sociology is lengthier than Psychology.
You would need atleast 6 months to study for either. A lot of students (myself included) take them just to get another grade on their certificate.

I think you can start by downloading the syllabus/past papers/etc
http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/ac ... def_id=760
and then start studying the case studies either from books or the pdfs readily available on the internet (look for them on the links below)
the examiner's bring up the questions from the original studies, not from any school books. so do read those and test your knowledge with the past papers.

some useful links

And you're welcome. Though I would confess that I'm no expert on the subject. I'm kind of looking for help myself.
I've studied almost all of the case studies. Now I'm trying to go through the past papers and revision guides. Trouble is, I'm not entirely sure if this is all that I need to study for AS or if there is more. And I'm clueless about A2 and how to study for that. But I'll let you know when I have answers.

Check both the holah sites, you will find all 20.
Not sure where you can find ordered notes. If you'd like, you can make them yourself. ;)
Can't help you with books, sorry, I don't know/have any.
Get the Examiner Reports for the general idea of answering the questions.
