What is the mechanism for the free radical substitution of ethane by chlorine?

I think the first would be breaking down Cl2 ( an ' is used to show a free radical)

Initiation: Cl2 -------> 2 Cl'

And then im not sure what the propagation and termination steps would be.

Any help would be great! Thank you!

Propagation results in more radicals being made. The highly reactive Cl' radical that has been initiated will react with a CH4 molecule forming H3C' radical and a HCl molecule. The H3C' can react with a Cl2 molecule forming CH3Cl and a Cl' radical. Inn short, whenever a radical is being made (apart from ofcourse in the homolytic fission of Cl2) to further 'attack' and cause reaction, we term the process propagation. Termination, on the other hand, is when 2 radicals react to form a compound. The Cl' radical and H3C' radical react to form the main product CH3Cl. Apart from HCl, a minute amount of C2H6 may also be made. :) :) :) Hope it helped.

C2H6 + Cl* ---> C2H5* + HCL
C2H5* + Cl2 --> C2H5Cl + Cl*

Termination
Cl* + Cl* --> Cl2
C2H5* + Cl* ---> C2H5Cl
C2H5* + C2H5* ---> C4H10
