In the titration questions an indicator is used. Could any one explain the color changes that occur when the acid is mixed with the alkali or vice versa. Just can't get it. If the solution gets neutral then why does the color change for the pH of the solution being poured into the flask?

Suppose a flask contains an acid, and an alkali is being added using a burette, with methyl orange indicator.

Methyl orange is red in acidic solution, and yellow in alkali solution.

When added to flask, it will be red in colour. As alkali is added, a point will come when all the acid will have neutralized, producing a neutral solution. Right after that, when one more drop of alkali is added, the solution will be alkali, and the colour will change to yellow.
