whats the difference between atomic mass unit (a.m.u) and mass number for an element?
whats the a.m.u for Oxygen and for each of the neutron and proton for oygen as well?
Plz help!

a.m.u for a proton :1
neutron:1
electron: 1/1837

Mass Number of oxygen is the neutron number ie: 16
A.m.u refers to the mass of protons/neutron/electrons , however if we add it up in an oxygen atom (8 protons * 1.amu)+(8 neutrons*1.amu)+ (8 electrons*1/1837) we get 16.004 , which rounds off to 16 mass number of the atom
Therefore we can say that mass number= a.m.u

Feel free to ask any more questions , hope I helped!

could this mean atomic number*a.m.u=mass number?
