Describe diff between a metal and non metal, Ok it's easy but its a bit not easy to explain in words.

We can say a metal is a atom that loses electrons to gain positive charge aquiring the nearest noble gas config.

and opposite for non metal?

Also, Describe similarity in properties between diamond and Silicon (IV) oxide related to their structures.

Last question is, describe the formation of ionic bonds between elements from group 1 and VII

Thanks.

difference between metal and non metal:
metal:
1) good conductor of heat
2) good conductor of electricity
3) high density
3) high m.p. and b.p.
4)shiny when polished
5) etc...

nonmetal:
1) opposite of metal

diamond hv atom arrange in a tetrahedral arrangement like silicon oxide
properties:
1) high m.p. and b.p.
2) hard so can be use for cutting and drilling
3) dont conduct electricity

ionic compound r formed when a metal losses its electron and become positively charged
and non-metal gain electron and become negatively charged
the opposite charges attract so there hv a strong bond and no free ions so it cant conduct electricity
but when dissolve the ions are free to move so it conduct electricity.

hope u got them :D

But wait, Silicon dioxide isn't joined to 4 atoms... like diamond

I only know that both are hard yes and both don't conduct E.C and about being ductile but nothing about m/b point...

silicon is joined to four oxygen and each oxygen is joined to 2 silicon in the same arrangment as diamond
(draw the stucture of diamond adn it is the same biut just replace the element to silicon and four oxygen)

it is definitely not ductile and remember it got high m.p. and b.p.

hope u got it now :D

of course they have high m.p. and b.p.
because they are ionic compound..
they are lattice.. strong bonds.. so they have high m.p. and b.p.
