I came across this question in the May/June 2012 paper 52...the gist of the problem is: what effect would a solution of ethanol have on the release of chloride ions from plant tissue, as opposed to deionised water? According to the mark scheme, it which increase the loss of chloride ions from the cells. WHY? Thanks in advance.

Because ethanol dissolves the Phospholipid bilayer, so fluidity increases allowing more chloride ions to be lost
