Al-Muwatta Hadith 52.7
Yahya said that he heard Malik say, "There is no good in chess, and he (the Messenger of Allah (saws)) disapproved of it." Yahya said, "I heard him disapprove of playing it and other worthless games. He recited this ayat, 'What is there after the truth except going the wrong way.' " (Sura l0 verse 32).

That means that all sports (football, cricket, basketball) are discouraged because they are worthless.

he mentioned "worthless games" not all games.
There are countless ahadith that approve of physical sports like swimming running and wrestling

So then all the dice games, rubik's cube, card games, video games are haram in your opinion?

I just talked about chess, here is a sahih hadith on that. and ahadith dont get any more authentic than sahih

So you are just going to say that on a Hadith that has no reason.

The only reason is that people keep playing, become a fanatic and forget everything else.

I am generalizing because that's how games go for Muslims. Play them but don't over-engross yourself in them to the point of neglecting everything else. Can't see how chess differs.

But if you so insist I will give my 2 cents on what makes it so different and hence wrong

unlike ludo and checkers pieces in chess are given a discriminatory value. A queen is "superior" to a pawn and vice versa
Because of this it develops a psyche of "expendability". You would save your king at the cost of a bishop.
This is a very negative way of thinking and when applied in real life would definitely make one very materialistic and coldly calculating

Then video games should be banned as well then.

Being a businessman can turn you into a money-freak, alright with leavings thousands of people without a job just so you can gain a profit from that fancy, efficient robot.

and I have told it many times and I repeat again, the hadith is up there you accept it or not, that is not my problem

the reasons could be any, but for chess the matter is pretty clear. For others we may be in doubt.
