when transpiration occurs, the cohesive and adhesive forces pull the xylem vessels in thus decreasing the diameter of the trunk. when transpiration is minimum this tension is released so diameter increases.

i was wondering about this too! i would say ecosystem, seeing as that's the latest answer. and if you read the examiner's report, "Many candidates did not use all the information provided and incorrectly selected option A."...
