what are things that an igcse student should avoid to secure an A*?

i have been bothered by many students who kept on telling me that the exams were easy but then it turns out they got around A-B and it worries me to see that encountering igcse exams might develop results away from an individual's expectations and because my first exam is 19 days away, i was just wondering if anyone could help and tell me what are the things done by many hardworking students in igcse that prevented them from getting an A*?
