O level English Lang

Hi everyone,
My question is that in O level English language paper in letter or report the question states that begin your letter/report with dear sir.
So do we have to write the whole pattern or just have to begin with dear sir.

You can just begin with
Dear sir/ma'am,

when the question asks you to start with Dear Sir, there is no need to write pattern...the more important is to follow instructions

From what I know, I think they award us some marks for the format as well..so to stay on the safe side you should start with the usual format provided to you
