let g (x) = y

we have to complete the square

(x-1/2) ^2 - 1/4 = y
(x-1/2)^2 = y +1/4
x-1/2 = plusminus squareroot of y+1/4
x = 1/2 plusminus squareroot of y+1/4

You had to specified the domain of g(x), but i assume that it should be greater than 1/2,
so

g inverse = 1 + squaretoot of x+1

g inverse of 6 = 1/2 + squareroot of ( 6+ 1/4 )
= 1/2 + squareroot of 25/4
=1/2 + 5/2
=3

You could verify that g(3) = 6
